PRIVATE TUTORING · IRVINE & NEWPORT BEACH

Study skills.
A calmer way forward.

Practical, one-on-one support for students who need help getting started, keeping track of schoolwork and learning how to study effectively.

We work with the assignments and deadlines your student actually has. The goal is a manageable routine they can use with increasing independence, supported by a tutor who feels like a mentor and coach.

Primarily in your home. Public locations and online via Zoom are also available, depending on the tutor match.

Personally recommended by Adam. Starting at $95/hour.

WHERE WE CAN HELP

Capable of the work.
Needing help with the process.

Sometimes the problem is not understanding a subject. It is starting a task, deciding what matters first or knowing how to prepare before a test. We help turn those expectations into skills the student can practice.

Get started with less friction.

Break a broad assignment into specific, manageable steps. Agree on a first action so the student is not facing an undefined “finish your homework” task.

Keep the work visible.

Build a simple way to track assignments, materials and deadlines. The best system is one the student understands and can actually maintain.

Study with a purpose.

Move beyond rereading toward retrieving ideas, solving practice questions and reviewing mistakes. Choose a study method that fits the subject and upcoming assessment.

COURSES & SKILLS

Support for the skills
behind the schoolwork.

The plan is tailored to the student’s age, workload and current routines. We begin with a few useful habits rather than introducing an elaborate system all at once.

Elementary homework routines

Practice unpacking materials, understanding directions, starting a manageable task and checking work. Keep the routine age appropriate and easy for a parent to reinforce.

Discuss elementary homework routines

Middle school organization

Coordinate assignments across classes, keep track of materials and plan ahead for tests. Help students adjust to having more teachers and responsibilities.

Discuss middle school organization

High school workload planning

Map deadlines, longer assignments and assessment dates. Break projects into stages and make a realistic plan around school and extracurricular commitments.

Discuss high school workload planning

Quiz & test preparation

Choose topics to review, retrieve information from memory and practice the types of questions the student will need to answer. Use mistakes to make the next study session more specific.

Discuss quiz & test preparation

Note-taking & reading strategies

Find the main idea, summarize useful information and turn notes into questions or practice. Adapt the approach to the subject instead of applying one method everywhere.

Discuss note-taking & reading strategies

Independence & follow-through

Have the student explain the plan, try it and review what happened. Gradually reduce prompting as the student becomes more consistent with the routine.

Discuss independence & follow-through

Share the exact course, grade and current material. We confirm the appropriate subject expertise, lesson format and availability before recommending a tutor.

PERSONAL OVERSIGHT

The subject matters.
So does the person teaching it.

For study skills, I consider the student’s personality, their willingness to accept guidance and the kind of follow-through they need. I look for a tutor who can be encouraging and clear while helping the student take more responsibility for the work.

I personally hire and get to know our tutors. I explain why I recommend the match, check how the first lesson went and remain available to help refine the plan. You have someone to call who knows your student and the tutor.

DURING A LESSON

Plan the work.
Practice the routine.

Students use the session to organize and work on real school tasks, then leave knowing what to do before the next meeting.

  1. 01 / REVIEW

    Understand the week ahead.

Check assignments, deadlines and upcoming tests with the student. Look at what was completed, what was missed and where the routine became difficult.

  2. 02 / PRACTICE

    Work through a useful habit.

Choose a priority, break it into steps and practice starting or studying. Explain the purpose of the method rather than simply giving more reminders.

  3. 03 / FOLLOW THROUGH

    Make the next steps clear.

Have the student explain the plan and how they will track it. At the next lesson, review what worked and change anything that was unrealistic.

Bring a planner if used, access to school assignments, upcoming deadlines and a few recent examples of unfinished or difficult work. Tell us what you have already tried at home.

WHAT PROGRESS CAN LOOK LIKE

More understanding.
More independence.

We pay attention to how your student approaches the work, not just whether an assignment is finished. Quiz and test results, teacher feedback and the student’s own explanations can help guide the next steps.

Share what you notice at home with Adam. Progress varies by student; we revisit the priorities and the support as needs change.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your first lesson.
And the support that follows.

Get to know the student and the work.

The first meeting looks at the student’s current workload and routines, then practices a useful change immediately. We also discuss what you are seeing at home and what greater independence would look like for your family. You can meet the tutor, ask questions and see how they work with your child.

Build a rhythm. Adjust as needed.

A consistent weekly meeting allows the tutor and student to review what happened between sessions. We adjust the support as habits become more reliable or the workload changes.

Adam helps you refine the plan.

Adam checks in after the first lesson and remains your primary point of contact. Share what is working and where your child still feels stuck. He can help you and the tutor revisit the match, study priorities or lesson schedule.

IRVINE & NEWPORT BEACH

Support that fits
your school and your home.

We use the student’s actual school systems, assignment instructions and deadlines. The plan should fit their classes and family routine, rather than require a separate set of practice tasks unrelated to school.

Irvine families

For Irvine Unified and private-school students, share the grade, course load and what happens during a typical homework evening. We can build a plan around the student’s current assignments and upcoming assessments.

Newport Beach families

For Newport-Mesa Unified and private-school students in Newport Beach, we consider class deadlines alongside sports, activities and family schedules. The aim is a practical weekly routine the student can follow.

Explore tutoring in Newport Beach

Most families meet their tutor at home. Set aside a quiet workspace and have the current coursework ready. A parent should be home for a minor’s lesson.

Prefer a library, another suitable public location or Zoom? Tell us when you inquire. We confirm the setting with your tutor. We are an independent tutoring service, not affiliated with a school or school district.

Just outside these cities? We can check nearby communities, generally within about a 20-minute drive. Availability depends on the address, traffic and the tutor’s schedule. View the coverage map.

A FEW ANSWERS BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Questions parents
ask us.

Still have questions?Call or text Adam and our team.(949) 510-9361Send a text
Is this different from homework help?
Yes. Homework provides the setting for practicing planning, starting, studying and checking work. The goal is for your student to use those skills more independently between lessons, rather than rely on an adult to direct every task.
What does study skills tutoring cost?
Study skills support starts at $95/hour. A 90-minute lesson at that starting rate is $142.50. If advanced subject teaching is also needed, we confirm the appropriate tutor and rate before booking.
Can you combine organization with a school subject?
Often, yes. Tell us which classes need academic help as well as organization. Adam considers both sets of needs when recommending a tutor; some students may need different specialists for different courses.
What if my child resists planners or reminders?
Tell us what has and has not worked. The tutor can involve the student in choosing a simple routine and show how it helps with a real task. We look for a manageable starting point and refine it through practice.
Will the tutor monitor schoolwork every day?
Scheduled lessons provide time to plan, practice and review. Daily monitoring or between-session check-ins are not automatically included; discuss any additional support with our office before agreeing to it.
Can you work with school accommodations?
Share the practical classroom expectations and accommodations that matter for tutoring. We can discuss how to support them in lessons. This service provides academic guidance and organization support; it is not a diagnostic or clinical service.
How quickly will my student become more independent?
There is no fixed timeline. Progress depends on the student’s starting point, workload and use of the routine between meetings. We look for specific changes, such as knowing what is due, getting started and requiring fewer prompts.
Where and how often do we meet?
In-home lessons in Irvine or Newport Beach are the main option, with public-location or Zoom requests also considered. We generally begin with a regular weekly appointment and review the duration and frequency as needs change.
