PRIVATE TUTORING · IRVINE & NEWPORT BEACH

ACT preparation.
A plan for each section.

One-on-one ACT tutoring that connects content review, section-specific practice and a workable approach to pacing.

We start with your student’s results, chosen sections and test date. Lessons address the skills and decisions that need attention, so preparation stays focused on the ACT they plan to take.

Primarily in your home. Public locations and online via Zoom are also available, depending on the tutor match.

Personally recommended by Adam. Starting at $145/hour.

WHERE WE CAN HELP

A section score is a start.
The review tells us more.

Two students can have the same ACT score for different reasons. Looking at the questions, timing and decisions behind the result helps us choose useful instruction.

Make editing decisions clearer.

Help the student explain why a sentence or passage needs a particular change, then apply that reasoning to another example.

Work with time more deliberately.

Review questions that take too long, practice a workable approach to moving through a section and check whether accuracy holds under timed conditions.

Choose useful next practice.

Focus independent work on recurring errors and current priorities. Avoid filling the week with practice that is never reviewed or connected to teaching.

COURSES & SKILLS

ACT preparation

We discuss English, math and reading, plus science or writing if your student is taking those optional sections. Share the registration details so we prepare for the correct test experience.

ACT Math

Review the math topics that show up as gaps in practice. Work on translating a question into a method, completing the calculation and checking the result efficiently.

Discuss act math

ACT Reading

Practice finding relevant evidence, interpreting passages and making supported inferences. Review how the student moves between the passage and the questions.

ACT Science, if selected

Work on interpreting graphs, comparing findings and following experimental reasoning. Use practice to identify whether the difficulty is the data, the explanation or the time available.

Discuss act science, if selected

ACT Writing, if selected

Practice planning a clear response, developing support and organizing an argument under timed conditions. Your student remains the author of the work.

Discuss act writing, if selected

Timed sets & section review

PERSONAL OVERSIGHT

The subject matters.
So does the person teaching it.

For the ACT, I look for relevant exam experience and the ability to teach the specific sections your student needs. We discuss whether the difficulty is content, interpretation, timing or a combination before I recommend the match.

I personally hire and get to know our tutors. I explain why I recommend the match, check how the first lesson went and remain available to help refine the plan. You have someone to call who knows your student and the tutor.

DURING A LESSON

Review the section.
Practice the approach.

An ACT lesson can focus on one section or connect several priorities. Targeted practice gives the tutor a chance to see how your student works, then teach and rehearse a more effective approach.

  1. 01 / IDENTIFY

Separate the reasons for a miss.

Review a recent practice set and the time it took. Look for missing knowledge, misunderstood instructions, unsupported choices or rushed calculations.

  2. 02 / TEACH

    Work on the section’s demands.

Explain the skill, model a useful approach and let the student practice. Discuss why the answer works and what makes the other choices less appropriate.

  3. 03 / REHEARSE

Try it with a clear plan.

Use a related set to practice accuracy and pacing. Agree on what to complete independently and what the next meeting will review.

Bring ACT section scores or official practice results, your intended test date and registration details. Tell us whether science or writing is included and which test format your student will use.

WHAT PROGRESS CAN LOOK LIKE

More understanding.
More independence.

We pay attention to how your student approaches the work, not just whether an assignment is finished. Quiz and test results, teacher feedback and the student’s own explanations can help guide the next steps.

Share what you notice at home with Adam. Progress varies by student; we revisit the priorities and the support as needs change.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your first lesson.
And the support that follows.

Get to know the student and the work.

The first ACT meeting reviews the student’s section results, goals and registration details. The tutor begins with a useful practice task and identifies priorities for the sections your student is taking. You can meet the tutor, ask questions and see how they work with your child.

Build a rhythm. Adjust as needed.

Many families choose a standing weekly session; a closer test date or larger gaps may need more frequent work. Lessons and independent practice should fit the student’s schedule, and the plan can be adjusted as results develop.

Adam helps you refine the plan.

Adam checks in after the first lesson and remains your primary point of contact. Share what is working and where your child still feels stuck. He can help you and the tutor revisit the match, study priorities or lesson schedule.

IRVINE & NEWPORT BEACH

Support that fits
your school and your home.

We build ACT preparation around the student’s school workload, registration and testing timeline. The sections they plan to take guide the lessons and tutor match.

Irvine families

For Irvine Unified and private-school students in Irvine, we can arrange focused ACT preparation at home or discuss Zoom. Bring section scores or practice results when available so we can identify where support is most useful.

Explore tutoring in Irvine

Newport Beach families

For Newport-Mesa Unified and private-school students in Newport Beach, we consider the intended test date, optional sections and schedule before recommending a tutor. Exact availability and the lesson rate are confirmed before booking.

Explore tutoring in Newport Beach

Most families meet their tutor at home. Set aside a quiet workspace and have the current coursework ready. A parent should be home for a minor’s lesson.

Prefer a library, another suitable public location or Zoom? Tell us when you inquire. We confirm the setting with your tutor. We are an independent tutoring service, not affiliated with a school or school district.

Just outside these cities? We can check nearby communities, generally within about a 20-minute drive. Availability depends on the address, traffic and the tutor’s schedule. View the coverage map.

A FEW ANSWERS BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Questions parents
ask us.

Still have questions?Call or text Adam and our team.(949) 510-9361Send a text
Can you focus on one or two ACT sections?
Yes. Share the section scores and goals so we can prioritize English, math, reading or selected optional sections. The tutor match should reflect the areas that need teaching, not assume every section needs equal time.
How much does ACT tutoring cost?
ACT preparation starts at $145/hour. At that starting rate, 90 minutes is $217.50 and two hours is $290. We confirm the exact tutor rate and recommended duration before arranging the first lesson.
Are ACT science and writing required?
ACT currently describes science and writing as optional sections. Check your student’s registration and any relevant college requirements, then tell us which sections they will take. This lets us plan the right preparation and confirm appropriate tutor expertise.
Is ACT science the same as school science tutoring?
The preparation has a different focus: interpreting information, working with data and reasoning about scientific material in a test setting. If a content gap also appears, the tutor can address it. Tell us if your student separately needs biology, chemistry or physics coursework support.
My child knows the material but runs out of time. Can you help?
We can review where time is spent, examine recurring decisions and practice a more deliberate section strategy. Teaching and timed practice work together; moving faster is only useful if the student can maintain understanding and accuracy.
Should we also prepare for the SAT?
We generally recommend selecting one exam after reviewing the student’s experience and practice results, then concentrating on it. You can explore SAT tutoring if you are still deciding. Switching later is something we can discuss; parallel preparation is not our default plan.
What if our ACT test date is soon?
Tell us the date, recent results and available time. We can discuss a realistic short-term focus, but cannot promise to cover every gap or deliver a particular score increase. A longer preparation window allows more time to teach, practice and adjust.
Where do lessons and practice tests take place?
Most lessons are in-home in Irvine or Newport Beach, with Zoom and suitable public locations also available depending on the tutor. Full-length practice may take place independently so tutoring time can focus on teaching and review. Registration and testing fees are separate.
