PRIVATE TUTORING · IRVINE & NEWPORT BEACH

History tutoring.
See the bigger picture.

Help your student move beyond memorizing dates to understanding events, interpreting sources and making a supported argument.

One-on-one support for social studies, U.S. history, world history, government and AP coursework, built around your student’s reading, assignments and upcoming assessments.

Primarily in your home. Public locations and online via Zoom are also available, depending on the tutor match.

Personally recommended by Adam. Starting at $95/hour.

WHERE WE CAN HELP

A lot to read.
A clearer way to learn it.

The challenge may be keeping the chronology straight, understanding a dense passage or turning knowledge into a timed response. We match support to the skill behind the difficulty.

Organize the material.

Connect people, events and themes in a workable outline or timeline. Understand causes and consequences instead of treating every fact as a separate item.

Read sources with purpose.

Practice identifying an author’s point of view, relevant context and useful evidence. Distinguish what a source states from what a student can reasonably infer.

Turn knowledge into an answer.

Build a focused claim, choose specific evidence and explain the connection. Practice the response formats expected in the course.

COURSES & SKILLS

From social studies
to demanding AP coursework.

Send the course title, current unit and the type of assessment that is most challenging. Adam confirms the relevant subject experience before selecting a tutor.

PERSONAL OVERSIGHT

The subject matters.
So does the person teaching it.

For history and social studies, I consider both knowledge of the course and the ability to teach academic reading and writing. I look for someone who makes the material understandable and helps your student explain their own reasoning.

I personally hire and get to know our tutors. I explain why I recommend the match, check how the first lesson went and remain available to help refine the plan. You have someone to call who knows your student and the tutor.

DURING A LESSON

Build context.
Use evidence. Explain why.

A productive lesson connects content knowledge with the reading and writing skills the student needs to show that knowledge.

  1. 01 / REVIEW

    Locate the missing connection.

Discuss the current unit, review a recent response and ask the student to explain an event or idea in their own words.

  2. 02 / PRACTICE

    Work with a real source.

Read a passage, document, map or chart. Identify useful evidence and connect it to the question being asked.

  3. 03 / PREPARE

    Write and review a response.

Practice a claim and supporting explanation, then identify what to review or improve before the next assessment.

Bring the textbook or assigned reading, notes, a recent quiz, the essay rubric and upcoming deadlines. For AP courses, share the response format your class is practicing.

WHAT PROGRESS CAN LOOK LIKE

More understanding.
More independence.

We pay attention to how your student approaches the work, not just whether an assignment is finished. Quiz and test results, teacher feedback and the student’s own explanations can help guide the next steps.

Share what you notice at home with Adam. Progress varies by student; we revisit the priorities and the support as needs change.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your first lesson.
And the support that follows.

Get to know the student and the work.

The first lesson reviews the current unit and a sample of your student’s reading or writing. The tutor begins addressing the immediate task and identifies a practical focus for future lessons. You can meet the tutor, ask questions and see how they work with your child.

Build a rhythm. Adjust as needed.

Weekly tutoring can keep a heavy reading load and writing practice from building up. We can revisit the schedule around unit tests, major essays and AP preparation as your student’s needs change.

Adam helps you refine the plan.

Adam checks in after the first lesson and remains your primary point of contact. Share what is working and where your child still feels stuck. He can help you and the tutor revisit the match, study priorities or lesson schedule.

A FEW ANSWERS BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Questions parents
ask us.

Still have questions?Call or text Adam and our team.(949) 510-9361Send a text
Which history and social studies courses do you support?
We can discuss elementary and middle school social studies, U.S. and world history, government, human geography and related honors or AP coursework. We confirm expertise for the exact class; ask us about other social science subjects.
How much does history tutoring cost?
Standard coursework starts at $95/hour, honors at $100/hour and AP at $105/hour. Ninety minutes at the standard starting rate is $142.50. The exact tutor rate is confirmed before booking.
Can you help with DBQs, short answers and longer essays?
Yes, when those formats apply to the student’s course. The tutor can explain the prompt, help the student select evidence and practice developing their own response. The student remains responsible for writing and submitting their work.
What if my child reads the chapter but cannot remember it?
We can help turn reading into a more active process: summarize a section, connect it to a theme, retrieve key ideas without looking and use specific examples. The tutor checks what the student understands before assigning more review.
Is AP exam preparation different from homework help?
It can be. AP preparation also practices the reasoning and response skills the exam assesses. We agree on how to balance current coursework, content review and timed practice based on the student’s needs and timeline.
Can the tutor follow the teacher’s rubric?
Yes. Share assignment instructions, comments and scoring guidance. Lessons can translate the feedback into concrete practice while respecting the school’s rules for outside help.
How often do you recommend tutoring?
A regular weekly session is often a practical starting point. Lessons are at least 60 minutes; 90 minutes is most popular and two hours is available. We adjust around the course, reading load and assessment schedule.
Can we meet at home in Irvine or Newport Beach?
Yes, subject to a suitable tutor and schedule. In-home support is our main format. We can also discuss a public location or Zoom.
